Clearing Out the Clutter- Our Head

Welcome back to day two of our five day blog hop of Clearing Out the Clutter.  If you are just joining us, you can read about day one- Our Home!

Now that we have gotten started with our homes, you are still working right?, it is time to move onto the next place that I find myself cluttered- my head!

Please tell me it is not just me.  I walk into a room and cannot remember why I headed that way to begin with.  I go to the grocery store only to find my list and coupons are back at home.  I remember a friend's birthday the day before- and know the card will never get there on time.  I suddenly realize I have two appointments today, at the same time.  UGH!

The problem?

Too much clutter in my head.  (OK, maybe my age too, but let's not go there please!)

The problem?  Well, I think it is pretty obvious.  We waste time, waste money, let people down and walk around the house dazed and confused.  Or is that just me too?

The solution?  I think there are several- here goes...

A calendar/planner.  If you do not have one, now is the time to get one.  If you can mange on your electronic device with the calender there, my hat is off to you.  Go for it.  If you need things on paper in front of you (that's me screaming me me me!) then find one you like and keep it practically attached to you.  Oh, and do not forget to use it.  May seem like a silly thing to say, but let's face it, if you never write those appointments down, you will never make them.

Say things out loud!  Yes, it may make your kids look at you kind of funny, but for most people it will really help you remember things.  If I say out loud, going to the bedroom to get that list, them I am more likely to remember it.  I just pretend someone else is listening and cares where I am going. ;)

Make a to-do list and mark it off.  I love lists.  No comments from the peanut gallery please.  And yes, I am one of those people who will add things to my list that I already did just so I can check them off.  But here's the most important part.  Dump your brain onto that list each night before your head hits the pillow.  Once it is off your brain and onto your paper you are likely to rest better.  If nothing else at least you will not wake up and have forgotten what you wanted to do.  And a word from the one that has been there- if you have a great thought- write it down immediately.  I keep paper in random places and have even pulled the car over to write down a blog idea.  (see how much I love you all?)

Don't bite off more than you can chew.  I think I need to repeat that.  Don't bite off more than you can chew.  Preaching to the choir, huh?  Want to know why we can't remember a thing and our heads are spinning at top speeds.  We are fast paced people living in a fast paced world.  And we can't say no and we want to impress people with all the things we can do.  And then we fail miserably at half of it, because our heads are so filled clutter.

And one more thought about clutter.  Another one of our family's favorite sayings is Trash In, Trash Out.  If we clutter our heads with the trash this world so readily supplies we have far less space for the best that God has for us.  I challenge you and your family to strive to fill your heads with only the best and...

Clear out the clutter!

Tomorrow, lets move down from our heads to our hearts!

  1. Great advice. I've been being cautious of what I take on with homeschooling. I find I could fill the days with things other than actual schooling and since that is not my goal - I choose wisely!

  2. Yet another post of yours that really hits home! Did you write these articles just to convict me, sweet friend? :)
I too have felt that in the past couple of years my mind has too much in it and it's harder for me to focus. I do believe that our technological age is a huge factor and just eliminating excessive time on devices is a big help in this.
"fill your heads with only the best that God has for you" - that's great advice - thank you so much. :)

  5. Wonderful. I'm getting to the point where my lists are all checked off. I have no desk since we sold it! But sometimes, I just want to turn off my thoughts :)

  7. We are working so hard on the clutter. I can't stand clutter. I can't think! I've also taken to using the Cozi program for scheduling, reminders, todos. I can have it on anything we own. Fabulous!
