House Reno- Week 4

Just in case you were wondering, four weeks is a long time to work on a house.  A very long time.  But we are starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

At least of phase one.

I have to admit, there were days this past week I did not feel like we were making much progress.  It seemed like I spent a lot of time putting things one place and then moving them, but looking back I can see more was done than I realized- thankfully!

So what was done?

  • After three weeks of daily back and forth trips between the rental and here, we finally got moved over on Wednesday!  It felt so good to stay in place after the long day and wake up in our house!

Super thankful for all those totes!

  • Movers brought over two loads of the final furniture that we felt we just could not do by ourselves.  They were a God- send!

  • Kitchen cabinets and bathroom cabinets painted!  The doors were taken back to their shop to be completed and should be returned in a few weeks.  Until then, they told us to pretend it was the "European style" open cabinet idea.

  • Installed Colby's bathroom shower door.  That "1 1/2 hour" project, was NOT!  Just for the record.  Still waiting on the master shower door to arrive.

Before

Yes, still waiting for faucets to be installed!

  • Installed more ceiling fans.  Three more to go!

  • Installed closet system for master bedroom.  Also, not a quick project!  Let's just say my sweet husband is amazing.  And sporting a huge bruise and scrape on his back that makes it look like he got in a fight with a velociraptor.

One of 16 boxes!

  • Unpacked all the picture boxes.  Haven't hung one picture yet, but thinking about it.

Ashton is my decorator and was supposed to come up this weekend to help hang pictures and settle things in.  Unfortunately on her way up here, she was rear ended on the highway by a pickup truck hauling a construction trailer.  Praise the Lord she is OK, but she did have to turn around and go back to her place to have the car looked at.  So for now, I am at a standstill with decorating.  Not to worry, there are enough final projects to keep us busy this week.

My hope is that by the end of next week we will be done.

With phase one! ;)

House Reno- Week 3

This is the post that almost didn't happen.  Guys, I am so tired!  I mean like I am pretty sure I could lay down in the floor and not get up for a week.  We have had many 9-5 days, carting tons of furniture and things over to the new house.  Clarke and I are both bruise covered and stiff.  Old age and moves do not go well together.  Believe it or not, I used to love the move process.  Not so much anymore.

And don't even get me started about painting!

So what got done this week?

  • Interior hinges and door knobs done!- All 105 and 35 of them, respectively!  Praise the Lord Salem and Colby became pros at them and took over that process.

  •   Finished out Salem's closet.

  •  Door stops installed.  Colby rocks at those as well.

  • 5 more ceiling fans taken down and three installed.

  • Lighting for two bathrooms put in.

  • Painting of the top floor complete.  OK, we had nothing to do with that part, but boy am I thankful it was done.  By someone else!!

Goodbye peach laundry room
Goodbye lavender master bedroom
Yay- a neutral color all over!

  • Ceiling painted in the kitchen and remaining lights installed.

Cabinets get painted this week!  I can't wait!

  • Salem's bathroom painted.  This I did.  In the same amount of time the professional painters did the whole main floor.  Don't even ask.  I am here to tell you- we DO NOT pay painters enough!

Mirror and cabinets to be painted this week!

  • Most of the pantry and freezer contents moved over.

  • Garage boxes opened and emptied.  Things are just put into cabinets for now and will have to be better organized at a later time, but at least it freed up some work space for us.  Plus, when we move in officially on Wednesday there are no boxes to unpack except the boxes of books that go in the library.

  • Unpacked the closet unit pieces.  And realized four boxes are missing.  So still waiting to put the master closet together.

2 of the 16 boxes!

  • Started placing furniture and setting up bed frames. The movers will move mattresses on Wednesday, so we wanted to have these up and ready to be slept in.

  • Garage doors were painted.  We still have to change out the glass in them and replace outdoor lights to match the black.

One set of doors.

Oh, and did I mention we also surprised Salem with a family graduation party?  That's a post for later this week.  Off to a hot bath and bed.  Two more days to get things done- the movers come on Wednesday!

I pray you are having a blessed month- I hear things are slowly opening up in many states.  Of course, who would know here- too busy moving to care at the moment.  For those out and about- be safe and enjoy the freedom!

House Reno- Week 2

Second week done, and it feels like it will never be done! ;)  On the other hand we did get a lot done this past week and the painters start today painting the main floor.  Can I tell you how thankful I am that they are doing that and not me?  I spent days, with lots of help, painting the master closet and the pantry and it wore me out!  Still have to paint one bathroom this week and I am dreading it already.

Because of our cooler temperatures, we have been able to keep the house open and enjoy a breeze while we worked.  Unfortunately, the cottonwood is flying and my allergies have taken a hit.  Itchy eyes and stuffy noses are prevalent and I am falling into bed exhausted every night!  Thankfully I have no where to go, because I am sure the looks I would get out would be ugly.  I need a shirt that says, "Just allergies!"

Just a peek at the things that have started pouring in.  Someone should have bought stock in Lowes this month, just saying!

So this week's progress-

  • Finished demo'ing the master closet and painted it.  Three coats!  Ready to install closet system if it ever arrives.

  •  Put together my new desk!  No more  blogging on the couch!

  • Lights all in and wired and ceiling ready to be painted.

  • A friend added vertical dividers in the pantry and we painted it.

  • Replaced multiple bathroom lights

  • Took down multiple lights and ceiling fans which will be replaced once the rooms are painted this week.

  •  Replaced more faucets in bathrooms and began tub fixture replacements.
Waiting for the rest of the parts to come in

  • A friend built a frame for Colby's bathroom mirror.

  • Took out glass shower doors to be replaced once they arrive.
Look, more gold!

  • Began the task of replacing hinges on all the doors (over 100 to be done!) and changing out the door handles.

  • Repaired two french doors that needed some TLC!

See that view?  One of my favorite things about the house!

  • Unpacked and organized mechanical room storage.
Christmas decorations and boy toys! ;)

  • And managed to shatter one shower door!  Praise the Lord for safety glass and His protection!  You should have seen the look on Clarke's face when he was left just holding the door handle.

Ya'll if we could turn all this gold we have removed into cash we would be rich!  Haven't even gotten to the second floor yet.  Funny story- we took a bunch of things to the local ReStore and they said a polite "no, thank you" to all the gold fixtures except a ceiling fan.

So this week while the painters work, we will be finishing up some painting and continuing the seemingly never ending removal of gold fixtures.  We are also continuing to slowly move things over and aiming for a complete move May 20th!

Exciting yet tiring but staying motivated with dreams of decorating and settling in!  One of the first things going up is our new sign from a friend.  I am so ready to fill this home with family and friends, and tons of love and laughter!

THANKS, Lynn!

Blessings,
