I Love You Just Because- Children's Board Book Review and Giveaway

Just today I had to have a discussion with my 9 year old about why some people do not like people who are different.  How the color of one's skin can make some people uncomfortable or even angry. Sad, but true.  Sad that we had to have that talk with our child born in Guatemala, and sad that some people really do feel that way.

It broke my heart to have to put hard, ugly thoughts into words that a child would understand.  It broke my heart that the reality of the world we now live in is that "that's not fair" is so true.  Because yes son, it is not fair.  Nor right or loving.  Because as he said to me today, "God made everyone different colors and He loves them."

And then I opened up the book that just arrived on my doorstep for review, I Love You Just Because, and I knew that God was sending a blessing our way.  His timing is always perfect.

I Love You Just Because, written by Donna Keith, is a sweet book about three very different bear siblings that learn that, although they are different, they were chosen by God and therefore special. In this little 20 page board book, kids learn about the unconditional love of parents and family, no matter their differences.

"Then Polar asks, "Is it okay that I don't look like you?"
His grandpa smiles and says, "I love you just because you're you!"

What a beautiful message we need to teach our kids!  How reassuring to hear that they are loved no matter what.  And what a fun way to tell them- with siblings Polar, Brown, and Panda.  This is the third in this series that Donna has written and is sure to be just as well loved!

Each beautifully illustrated page also highlights a scripture verse to reiterate the lesson taught on that page.  My son's favorite thing to do is read the verse after I read the page.  Yes, he may be a little old for board books, but one is never too old to snuggle and be read to.  As an adopted child, this book seems to hold his attention more than most and I love that it is a lesson he can understand and enjoy.

It is most definitely a keeper to add to your children's book collection!
