CREW Review- No Nonsense Algebra

Algebra!

Does just the sound of the word instill fear in your heart or in the heart of your kids?

Yep, us too!

Enter Richard W. Fisher, developer of No-Nonsense Algebra, from Math Essentials.  Fear, be gone!

In just 209 pages and about 20 minutes a day, Mr. Fisher makes Algebra not only understandable but also a lot less scary.  Yes, you read that right- 20 minutes a day!  I love it already and so do my kids.

Chapters include:
     Necessary Tools for Algebra
     Solving Equations
     Graphing and Analyzing Linear Equations
     Solving and Graphing Inequalities
Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities
     Polynomials
     Rational Expressions
     Radical Expressions and Geometry
     Quadratic Equations
     Algebraic Word Problems

Each lesson is broken down into four parts: the Introduction which teaches the concept, the examples which Mr. Fisher encourages the student to write out for better understanding, the exercises and a quick 4 problem review.  Chapters are followed by a review and then there is a final review of all materials at the end of the book.  (Think test)  A glossary of terms and the answers are also found at the back of the book.

What we found to the best part of the program are the online video lessons.  Quick, but thorough lessons are done on a whiteboard for every lesson and are an essential element to learning.  My daughters loved that Mr. Fisher moved quickly along, not dragging out the lessons with unnecessary fluff.  His teaching is clear and concise- making each subject easy to learn.

Since both of my girls have done Algebra before my oldest daughter, who is preparing to take the Algebra CLEP, has been using the book and videos as a review.  Having not taken Algebra in three years she found No-Nonsense Algebra to be a great review and preferred the way the lessons were taught to how she had learned previously.  My second daughter, who just completed Algebra, enjoyed Mr. Fisher's simple book layout and shorter assignments.

Looks like we have found a new Algebra program for the boys!

We also received the Mastering Essential Math Skills- Geometry book to review.  A shorter book at only 63 pages, each lesson is set up like Non-Nonsense Algebra and will require only about 20 minutes a day as well.  We have only worked through a few pages so far, but like we we see.  This book is meant to be a review/practice type book and does not come with video lessons.

No-Nonsense Algebra can be purchased for $27.95 here which includes the book and access to the online videos.  The Geometry book, plus several others like it, can be purchased for $11.95 here

From the website-
"Only 4 out of every 10 eighth graders are proficient in Math, and by grade twelve, only 2 out of 10!"

"Use Rick Fisher's Mastering Essential Math Skills for 20 minutes a day as directed. If you don't see what you feel are dramatically improved math test scores, send us a note saying so. You'll receive a prompt, complete refund - no questions asked!"

With this price and this guarantee, I don't think you can go wrong!
