The Sound of Music Live!

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens...
I am sixteen going on seventeen...
Doe, a deer, a female dear...
So long, farewell...

Are you singing along with me yet?  Come on, you KNOW you are!
We love musicals in this house!  Have I mentioned that?  As a matter of fact, I think I live with the queen of musicals.  My almost 16 year old loves them all.  One of her greatest joys in life so far was going to New York City to see The Phantom of the Opera.  Since we can't just pop into the city daily, we do the next best thing- watch them on video, see them locally as often as possible, and sing the tunes at the top of lungs!  (My hubby just loves that option!)

Sooooooooooo, all that to say that we are very excited about The Sound of Music Live!, airing this Thursday, December 5th,  7:00pm CST (8:00 pm EST)  Luckily for us, the family who gave up cable a few years ago, we do get a few basic stations and NBC is one of them to my great relief.  It also thrills me that we can watch this as a family.  All of us, not just the older ones.  Not often you can say that about public TV!

Yes, I know it is not Julie Andrews.  I do not care.
Yes, I know that it has some different songs added from the stage production.  I do not care.
Yes, it will be different.  I do not care.
Yes, I know it is THREE hours. Again, I do not care!

There will be singing.  There will be dancing.  There will be fun!  That is all I need!

Oh, and these things as well-

Carrie Underwood-  No matter how you feel about her (we love her, by the way), she has a beautiful voice!

Audra McDonald- Have you seen her in "Annie"?  Regardless, she is a great actress and singer!

Carrie Underwood (Maria) and Audra McDonald (Mother Abbess)
record the cast album
Stephen Moyer- a television star, who recently was in "Chicago" alongside Samantha Barks (one of my daughter's favorite performers)

Christen Borle- Another Broadway phenomenon who has been in "Legally Blonde" and "Peter and the Starcatcher" to name just two.  He has a great voice.

Stephen Moyer (Captain VonTrapp) and Christian Borle (Max Detweiler)

All those kids.  Not only are they just too cute, but man, those kids are talented!

the lovely VonTrapp kiddos
I also have the privilege of being on a promotion team for this event!  So bear with me on Thursday as we share our excitement about this live event.  Hope you will join us in cheering on this fabulous cast and crew.

"Different is not bad, just different!"

Will you be joining us on Thursday to celebrate this new version of a beloved classic?  I know, there is only one Julie Andrews, but I bet she is celebrating the difference with us on Thursday!

Break a leg, Carrie and cast!
(that's theatre talk for "good luck" ;D)

  1. I WANT to be there! But my hubby will object strongly....but maybe I can convince him it's a good education in music theater and call it a subject in homeschooling?!
